The brief
Harrison didn't just want somewhere to type out his dreams — he wanted to actually understand them. Conventional journaling captures the dream and stops there. He wanted an app that could read back what he recorded, surface the patterns, and let him dig into the meaning. And because dreams are about as personal as data gets, privacy was non-negotiable: his entries had to stay his alone, never sold, never used to train anyone's models.
What we built
We designed and shipped DreamScribe, a minimalist iOS app built around a custom speech-to-text voice recorder tuned for use first thing in the morning — when dreams are still fresh and typing is the last thing you want to do. You speak, it transcribes, and the entry lands in a full searchable dream journal, complete with an iOS home-screen widget, sign-in protection and smart image optimisation.
But the journal is only the front door. The real product is the AI layer we built on top of it.
The AI inside DreamScribe
This is where DreamScribe stops being a notes app and starts being a dream companion. We integrated AI directly into the recording and review flow so that every dream becomes something you can read, understand and explore:
- Instant AI summaries. The moment a dream is saved, AI distils a rambling, half-remembered, voice-recorded entry into a clear, concise summary you can actually scan and remember later.
- Dream analysis & interpretation. AI reads each entry and breaks it down — the recurring symbols, the emotional tone, the themes — and surfaces patterns across your dreams over time, not just the one you logged this morning.
- Talk to your dreams. A built-in conversational AI lets Harrison break a dream apart and chat about it — ask what a particular image might mean, dig into why a theme keeps recurring, or just think out loud and have the AI reflect it back. It turns a static journal entry into an ongoing conversation.
The result is an app that doesn't just store dreams — it helps make sense of them.
Private & secure by design
Harrison's privacy requirement shaped every technical decision. Dream data is processed securely and is never sold or used to train models — it stays his, and his alone. The AI features are powerful precisely because he can trust where his most personal data goes. That trust is the whole point, and it's why he still uses the app every day.
